Affirmations for men

How to use positive affirmations

While you can use these daily quotes any way you want (really!), there are three main ways most men utilize affirmations. The morning is a good place to start, but doing them on a daily basis is what you should aim for.

1. Write them down

At Vertellis we’re big fans of journaling, so it’s natural that we would gravitate toward writing our affirmations down. Daily moments work best here. You can do this in a notebook, on a scrap of paper, or in a guided mindfulness journal like Vertellis Chapters. Wherever you choose to write your positive affirmations, we recommend writing each one continuously for at least 3-5 minutes.

2. Say these positive statements in front of the mirror

Many affirmationists recommend that men say these positive affirmations out loud in front of the mirror for 3-5 minutes while making direct eye contact. We know—sounds kinda weird, but once you get over the awkwardness of looking yourself in the eye, you’ll find it’s very powerful to tell yourself such profound proclamations.

With this method, the key is to speak confidently! Find a time and space where you won’t be disturbed and say your affirmations with full conviction. We promise it makes all the difference.

3. Create a meditation mantra

Meditation has loads of health benefits and is used by many highly successful men like Jeff Weiner (the CEO of LinkedIn) and Bill Gates. While there are many different styles of meditation, transcendental meditation involves letting go of thoughts and cultivating presence by silently repeating a mantra. Although traditional mantras are usually in Sanskrit, we like to use a positive affirmation as our mantra during meditation.

To do this, sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Begin to focus on your breath and then start to silently repeat your chosen affirmation. If your mind wanders, simply bring it back to the affirmation. If you can, do this for a minimum of 20 minutes, but if you’re short on time, even as little as 5 minutes will make an impact.

Male Affirmations for a quick confidence boost

While the methods listed above are great for deeply ingraining positive affirmations for men into your subconscious, you can also use them for quick confidence boosts throughout the day. For instance, if you’re about to walk into a job interview, presentation, or first date, take a minute to close your eyes and silently say to yourself: “I have prepared for this'' or “I have a lot to offer” or any other affirmation that resonates with you at that moment.

This practice only takes a few seconds but can instantly make you more confident and grounded before you step into the room. You can also do this if you’re in the middle of a date or big meeting (maybe minus the eye closing). Since you’re saying the affirmation silently to yourself, nobody has to know!

Men affirmations

Remember to focus

To make these declarations effective, you need to say, think, or write them with complete focus. It’s like going to the gym—the more focus you have, the more intensity you bring to your workout, which equates to better and faster results. Positive affirmations for men only work if you really focus.

The same holds true for morning affirmations as men are mostly productive in the early hours of the day. Practice them in a time and space where you won’t be disturbed and really commit to what you’re saying for the allotted time you’re doing them. If you lose focus, don’t beat yourself up, just come back to the affirmation with a renewed sense of engagement.

Daily or morning affirmations for men

In addition to focus, you’ll get the most out of your affirmations if you turn them into a daily habit, in the morning for example. Here are two of our favorite ways to start incorporating these positive quotes into your daily life.

Daily affirmations for men

Commit to a time of day

There’s no right or wrong time to use affirmations. Most guys like using them in the morning to start their day off on a high note, others prefer to incorporate their affirmations into an evening routine so their brain is filled with positive thoughts as they drift off to sleep. Perhaps you only have time on your lunch break or plan on saying them right after you get into bed at night.

While there are different benefits with all of these options, the key is finding a time that works best for you. This is especially important as you begin to turn these daily affirmations into a habit. Experiment a bit, if needed, to find a time that works and then commit to saying your affirmations at that time for 30 days. Daily affirmations for men work best if they are repeated! Expert tip: Schedule it on your calendar!

Get an affirmation partner

Having an accountability buddy is a great way to stay on track as you make these positive statements part of your daily routine. Feel free to share this post with a guy friend, colleague, or your partner and have them commit to 30 days of affirmations, as well. If your chosen accountability partner is a woman, send them these positive affirmations for women for additional inspiration.

Goal setting with affirmations

These morning affirmations for men listed above are great for building confidence and boosting self-esteem, but men can also create personalized affirmations to help achieve their goals. Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, swears that affirmations have helped him achieve goals in his life (and he sets big ones).

Scott’s method? Writing down his goals 15 times every day with complete focus. He rationalizes that this engages your subconscious mind to focus on a specific thing you want, which then allows your brain to notice people or resources in your environment you may not have noticed before. This is also in line with what Tony Robbins says—”Where focus goes, energy flows”.

Make these positive affirmations for men your own

If you want to use men affirmations to help achieve your goals, simply create a powerful statement for something you want to accomplish, such as: “I will be a published author by the end of this year”. Try your hand at Scott’s method (writing your goal down 15 times in a row every single day) or use any of the affirmation approaches we listed above.

Remember though, at the end of the day, this is your journey. If you choose to incorporate daily affirmations into your life, you have to find a way to make it sustainable for you. The tips and tools outlined above are just guidelines. Do whatever you need to do to make these affirmations for men work for your lifestyle!
