How to practice daily positive thoughts

When it comes to affirmations, the best way to use them is...ANY WAY YOU WANT! Seriously. These daily affirmations are for you, girl. So if you feel compelled to practice them a certain way, by all means, go for it.

However, if you need a little inspiration or want to try a few different ways to see what’s most effective for you, here are our favorite ways to utilize these affirmations for women:

1. Say them out loud

Many affirmationists encourage women to say their affirmations out loud for at least 3-5 minutes. This can be done in front of a mirror with direct eye contact, in your car, out in your backyard...pretty much anywhere you can get a little privacy and speak with your full voice.

Please note—speaking with your full voice is important here! All of these positive affirmations for women are designed to increase confidence and self-love, but for them to really work their magic, you must say them unapologetically. Don’t be afraid to really go for it!

P.S. While saying these declarations about yourself confidently is important, if you run into some self-consciousness in the beginning, that’s totally normal. You’ll work through it as you say these positive statements more and more. :)

2. Write them in a journal

While saying affirmations out loud is a wonderful option, you can also write them in a journal. Keep in mind, just like with speaking them out loud, repetition is key here. If you’re practicing your morning declarations in a journal, give yourself 3-5 minutes to write without stopping.

Ideally, you should write your affirmations in the same place every day. We recommend using a blank notebook or guided mindfulness journal like Vertellis Chapters. An added bonus—use your journal to track your progress. Take a few minutes after practicing your affirmations to write about your experience and/or any changes in mindset that you’ve noticed.

3. Tell yourself these affirmations for women

For the moments you’re not able to say your affirmations out loud or write them in a journal—like before you walk into a big job interview or are in the middle of a challenging conversation—say an affirmation silently to yourself.

If you can, use some repetition, but even one simple thought of “I am enough” (or whichever affirmation for women you’re using) will help bring you back to center and keep you grounded through the experience.

Morning vs Evening

When it comes to the time of day to practice your affirmations—is morning or evening better? Well, just like with choosing how to practice affirmations, we encourage you to find a time that works best for YOU.

Morning affirmations for women are great because you start your day on a positive note and ground yourself in confidence before the day begins. Meanwhile, using your affirmations right before bedtime allows your subconscious mind to absorb these positive statements while you sleep.

If you really want to jump on the affirmations bandwagon, you can also do both! Our take on the matter? It’s kinda like exercise...find a time where you can consistently fit your affirmations in because you’re going to get benefits no matter what time of day you use them.

Aim for daily affirmations

Just like any healthy habit, affirmations are not a one-and-done deal. For these statements to truly work their magic and defeat self-sabotaging thoughts, you need to practice them daily.

The easiest way to do this? Make affirmations part of your daily routine. Whether it’s in the morning, evening, or on your lunch break, practicing your affirmations at the same time each day helps them become an automatic, can’t-live-without-it habit—kind of like brushing your teeth.

Our recommendation: pick a few daily affirmations for women that really resonate with you and incorporate them into your routine for the next 30 days. Use our 30-day journaling challenge for inspiration, or do the two challenges alongside each other for an extra kick of personal growth!

Daily affirmations for women

Make sure you believe them

For these positive declarations to work, your brain needs to recognize them as true. Why is that important? Well, think about it…if you don’t believe your affirmations, your brain will automatically shrug them off as being a lie. That’s no way to boost your confidence!

The key here lies in the wording. Let’s take a look at the affirmation: “I treat my body with care and kindness.” Body image can be a triggering topic for many women, so this is a great example to break down.

Notice that this affirmation does not say, “I always treat my body with care and kindness” because, for many women, that’s most likely not true! We’ve all had moments where we’ve been unkind to our bodies. But have you treated your body with care and kindness at some point in the past? Perhaps you rested your body while suffering from an injury or consciously ate a meal that made your body feel good. If so—then “I treat my body with care and kindness” is a true statement!

If you’re craving even more mantras for empowerment and self-worth, try these powerful confidence affirmations.

Re-word your affirmations for women

The affirmations listed above are just a starting point. Feel free to re-word or add phrases to make them believable for you. So, for instance, if “I treat my body with care and kindness” is not working for you, try one of these:

  • “I am willing to treat my body with care and kindness.”
  • “I am learning to treat my body with care and kindness.”
  • “I am taking steps to treat my body with care and kindness.”

There is no right or wrong way to reword these affirmations for women. Just meet yourself where you’re at. Being willing to do something is a great place to start. Saying you’re committed to learning something will create just as many positive changes in your life.

Perhaps over time, you can drop the extra phrases and simply say “I treat my body with care and kindness”, but if that’s not believable for you right now, that is OKAY. The journey to increased self-love and empowerment is a process!

Affirmations for women

Experiment with “You”

While most people recommend using “I” statements for affirmations, you can also try speaking to yourself in the second or third person. For instance, instead of “I am a strong, powerful, and resilient woman”, say to yourself, “Jennifer, you are strong, powerful, and resilient.” (Insert your own first name, of course!)

The idea here is that you’re talking to yourself in a way you would talk to a dear friend if they came to you with a problem. This may be helpful in areas of life where you feel particularly vulnerable or in situations that feel emotionally charged.

Mix it up and see what works best for you! Perhaps work with “I” statements while practicing your morning affirmations and then switch to “you” when you encounter a challenging situation during the day. Again, like always, no right or wrong here!

Get other women involved

Studies have shown that our behavior is influenced by those around us. Consequently, if you’re around other women who regularly engage in negative self-talk (no judgment—we’re all guilty of it!), you’re more likely to partake in negative self-talk, as well. So how can you help ensure that your affirmation habit will stick without having to write off your friends and family members?

Easy—get them involved! Send this post to them, talk to them about your daily affirmations for women , create an accountability buddy system…there are numerous ways to share this practice with the girls around you. The best part is, as your friends and family adopt this practice, they’re more likely to share it with their female friends, meaning even more women get involved! Talk about a ripple effect...

Make these affirmations for women work for you

However we choose to move forward with your daily morning affirmations, women need to remember that this is a personal journey. There’s no right or wrong here! You’re in the driver’s seat, so feel free to experiment with the tips & tools above and find a way to make these positive affirmations for women work best for you!
